Welcome to the College of Failure!
The Five Minute Failure is the result of a decade of research of hundreds of books and thousands of people. It is one of the few, if not the only, book on success that chooses to present itself in a way that entertains just as much as it informs.

Induction to the College of Failure
Welcome to the venerable College of Failure. It is delightful to have you in our care. Please make sure you are sitting uncomfortably and we’ll get started on letting you know just how to fail, derail your career and generally make a mess of all and sundry.
You are one of the many thousands of students who have passed through our doors with the sole purpose of deteriorating your wellbeing – and with any luck, the wellbeing of those around you. But before we go any further, you have to make a decision. Should you read on? There is every chance that if you do you might pick up bad habits that will lead you on to success in one form or other. This is just a hazard of this vocation sadly. To fail comprehensively takes real dedication.
It might be better if you just put this book on the shelf next to the other tomes on leadership, management and financial wellbeing where it will look pretty and sooth the guilt you might feel were you not the proud owner of a vast amount of theory. We used an especially long sentence there because everyone else who writes ‘success’ books does and we were feeling left out.
Still here? Good. Much of what you read in this book might seem familiar. Now and again you’ll look at the wise words contained herein and go ‘I don’t believe it! That is so obvious!’ Of course all the best things are; it just takes some enterprising soul to point them out.
With these glad thoughts in our hearts we are ready to begin a journey that will take us through the finest virtues a human being can possess – ignorance, arrogance, fear and of course a smattering of good old bigotry.
This book will hopefully change your life. Yes, we’re thinking big! We like to think it’s as important as the Dead Sea Scrolls, except it’s more like the Dead End Scrolls.
So a toast! To making a success of failure, or if you’d rather, to making a failure of success.
Not-so humbly yours,
The Professors of the College of Failure
